The Northeast Chapter of FNGLA recently added to NHF's scholarship offerings by creating the FNGLA NE Chapter Scholarship Endowment.
Partnering with NHF, FNGLA's Northeast Chapter will broaden its reach and successfully manage its scholarship funds to offer the Billy Barwald Scholarship annually and continue to provide students with needed support well into the future.
The Billy Barwald Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Northeast Chapter of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) to commemorate Billy’s dedication, enthusiasm and many years of service in the horticultural industry. Billy created and ran Barwald Landscaping for more than 60 years. In 1990 he started the Flying Dragon Citrus Nursery with his son, Michael, in Jacksonville Florida.
Barwald holds the distinction of being the third Landscape Architect registered in the State of Florida. He was also a charter member of the 1953 establishment of the Florida Nursery and Growers Association (now FNGLA), and was elected to the FNGLA’s Hall of Fame in 2010. It is fitting the Billy Barwald Scholarship invests in a new generation of young professionals to further the horticultural industry for years to come.
Congratulations, Northeast Chapter's leaders for your forward thinking! Those interested in applying for this scholarship can find more details on the NHF website under scholarships!
